Noisy Miners .

A one minute extract of a movie by June Furness

Three little Miner Birds.

After Six days in the Nest! – What's next?

A short movie by June Furness showing three little Noisy Miner birds in their nest was shown at Ringwood Movie Makers a few months ago. It shows the scene each day for the final six days of their stay. An adult bird appears and the little fledglings all compete for their next meal. The little ones can be seen close-up and you can hear their chirping as they anticipate their next meal.

The viewers watch the action in the nest and can appreciate the beautiful greenery and the changing weather each day up to Sunday.
Sunday for these birds however, is not a Day of Rest. It's the day when the little Miners have to work the hardest.

After days of preparation they can be seen taking their first flight – are they successful? You will see the answer to that when you view the movie

June says:

I was aware that the Noisy Miners were nesting again – I could hear the little chirps as I walked under the tree. After a couple more days the tops of their heads could be seen bobbing in the nest. They were growing quickly so I decided to take out my tripod and camcorder plus an external mike.

Fortunately the adult birds (and there were at least three of them) were not perturbed by my presence and ignored me until the sixth day when one of them swooped at my head.

I spent about three quarters of an hour (or more) each day filming and knowing they were about to leave the nest I was up early that morning to be sure I didn't miss them. (One finished up in a rose bush). The final movie was 4 minutes long and I had about two hours of footage!

The music I used was Royalty Free from William Cushman – obtainable from the internet.
