The rules on this page are the rules governing all club competitions for the period commencing 1st of July 20007 until further notice.
GENERAL
1. In these rules,
“Association” means Ringwood Movie Makers Inc.
“Movie” means a production per medium of film or video.
“Video” means any electronic method that produces a visual display via domestic equipment.
“Group Movie” means a movie made by three or more members, in groups arranged by the Association, or in groups arranged by interested members.
2. All competing movies must have been made by members of the Association, but persons, whether members of the Association or not, may be used as actors or narrators.
3. The closing date for competition entry applications shall be as determined by the Competition Secretary and/or the Committee.
4. No competition shall be conducted unless there are at least three entries from competing members.
5. All competition entries shall be amateur movies. The use of commercial footage is not permitted.
6. When presented for judging,
(a) Tape entries must be cued at the start of the movie with approximately 10 seconds of black before the beginning of the movie.
Where the media provides a time code, the start point must be stated on the cassette container and the entry cued as near as possible to that point.
(b) An entry presented on disk or similar medium must be the first play item on the media.
(c)All entrants must complete an entry slip showing:

7.Quarterly Competitions will be held as follows: September, December, April, June. Group Movies are not eligible. The subject matter and running time (maximum 20 minutes) for entries is at the discretion of the entrants.
8. “Movie of the Year” will be held in July each year, with entries selected as per Rules 9 and 10.
9. Entries placed first and second in Quarterly Competitions shall be eligible to be judged for “Movie of the Year” for that Association Year.
10. At screening of Quarterly Competition entries, all members of the audience, except entrants, will be invited to record their personal scores for Audience Appeal for each entry shown, on a score sheet provided.
The averages of Audience Appeal scores will be recorded for each entry. The highest Audience Appeal averages of movies not included under Rule 9 will be used to qualify two additional entries in "Movie of the Year" for that Association Year.
11. When presented for "Movie of the Year", eligible entries must not have been altered in any way from the production as presented in the Quarterly Competition.
12. A Competition for Group Movies may be held each year. Winner to be selected by an independent judge (not a Club member).
13. Other competitions may be held as decided by the Committee.
e.g. One Minute Movie, Theme etc.
14. Entries submitted for competitions will be screened on Association equipment. Entries submitted on non-supported media will require the entrant to provide appropriate screening equipment.
15. The producers shall be responsible for the copyright clearance of all material used in any movie entered in any Ringwood Movie Makers Inc. competition.
16. No competitor may make any comment concerning his or her entry prior to or during competition judging
2. AWARDS
1. Quarterly Competition: For each Quarterly competition, a trophy will be awarded to the highest scoring entry .
Certificates shall be awarded to any member whose judging score exceeds his or her previous best benchmark.
Benchmarks shall be 60%, 65%, 70%
3. JUDGING
1. All competitions shall be judged on the relevant activities night unless otherwise determined by the Committee.
2. The screening order of entries shall be determined by ballot.
3. For judging purposes, each entry shall be screened once only.
4. Discussion between judges prior to marking shall be limited to points of interpretation and/or clarification. At no time prior to marking shall the merits of an entry be discussed.
5. Competitions shall be judged under the system determined by the Committee from time to time.
6. For all competitions conducted by the Association, (except Movie of the Year) the Committee or the Competition Secretary shall appoint a panel of three approved judges, none of whom shall have an entry in the Competition being judged.
7. The Committee shall produce and maintain a list of judges chosen from experienced Association members, who shall be familiar with the current judging system.
8. The composition of the Judging panel for Movie of the Year shall be decided by the Committee and/or the Competition Secretary.
9. Where a competition is to be judged by persons other than members of the Association, a member of the Association shall be appointed to be responsible for the care and safe return of all entries, and shall attend the judging session or sessions, and shall project the entries on Association approved equipment.
10. Disputes arising from any competition shall be passed to the Committee for discussion and final resolution.

Club Awards
1. Ringwood Movie Makers Memorial Award
This trophy shall be awarded at each AGM in memory of deceased members and/or their spouses.
The Committee shall award this trophy to a person or persons who have made a significant contribution to the Club during the previous year.

2. Movie of the Year . Chosen by independent judges from 1st and 2nd placings in quarterly Competitions, plus 2 top entries of Audience Appeal (other than those placed 1st or 2nd in Quarterly Competitions) See Competition Rules No's 9,10,11

3. Members’ Choice - Movie of the Year -. Highest scoring averaged Audience Appeal for all entries in Quarterly Competitions.

COMPETITION SECRETARY.
Promote competitions. Organise quarterly competitions
Enlist judges.
Arrange Judging venues.
Provide judging forms,and ensure correct presentation procedures are followed.
Set closing date for entries and arrange collection.
Maintain a record of all results .
Organise "Movie of the Year” competition.
Produce results of the "Movie of the Year" on the night of the competition.
Organise trophies and their presentation.
