PRESIDENT'S REPORT AGM JULY 2009

It is my pleasure to report on another successful year for Ringwood Movie Makers Inc.

I believe the main reason our Club operates so successfully is because so many members contribute in so many ways – assisting other members with technical advice, preparing the Clubroom for our meetings, setting up projection equipment, preparing supper, suggesting ideas for the Syllabus, preparing DVDs, presenting movies in our Community Support Program, fund raising, publicising Club activities, taking on Committee duties, presenting demonstrations at Club meetings..........thank you to all concerned.

Another reason is our comprehensive Club equipment which enables us to present movies to full advantage , with a permanent motorised screen( over 3 m wide ), HD projector which handles 16:9 movies and players for SVHS and Mini DV tape, DVD and now BluRay. We also have radio microphones and a lapel microphone for use at meetings. This has only been made possible by continued fund-raising, and we sincerely thank Stuart and Shirley Walker and their helpers for their commitment in “manning” the gates at a local football ground.
Dorothy McDonald is another long term fund raiser whose efforts have considerably swelled Club funds.

With 2 meetings a month for most of the year, planning is necessary to cover a range of topics that will interest as many members as possible. Our Syllabus has provided us a number of excellent presenters, and independent film maker Gary Hegedus once again enthused us with his presentation
We have established features such as the highly successful Ladies Night , where lady members produce all the movies shown, arrange an excellent speaker, and generally “run the show”. Other established programs are the Quarterly Competitions, where members can screen their movies, compare them with other entries, and gain helpful comments from the judges. Here we must thank Alan Battye, our Competition Organiser not only for his work in running the Quarterly Competitions, but also his arrangements for the Movie of the Year competition.

We have been delighted to have members from other Clubs visit some of our programs, as we make an open invitation to join any of our activities.

John Millard produces our informative quarterly magazine “Take One”, Norm Tillack as Secretary efficiently handles the duties involved, and Shirley Walker keeps a watchful eye on finances.
Vice President Tony King presents “Tony’s Ten Minute Tech Talks” and maintains the website, which includes a facility for sending e-mails to all Club members, as well as enabling a number of prospective members and other Clubs to contact us.

Fred Haering arranged a visit to Channel 9, where Peter Hitchener provided a very informative 2 hour guided tour for a number of our members.

We continue to present movies at least once a month at supported accommodation centres and to other community groups , with a library of over 200 movies by members – all on DVD for efficient presentation.

With our membership holding at 37 members, we look forward to another interesting and rewarding year.
Congratulations to all.
